Great Home Appliance Posted: 12/3/09
Pros: convenience quality of results flexible cycles
Cons: time of full load if you are in a hurry

"In today's world of seemingly, never-ending immediate gratification, this appliance is both a winner and a loser. The loser part is, yes, a full cycle takes a longer time - about 2 3/4 hours. The winner part is you do not have to touch the clothes until they are done. Go away to the store, pick up the kids, take a nap. Or, just come back the next day. Don't do that with a standard washer and expect fresh clothes.

We have another, older pair in the basement that we use when things build up following guests or lots of towels after a swim party. That's about all the use that gets. The LG gets the greates majority of all work. We remodled our master bath and placed this in a closet. As it is right next to the MBR, we do not operate it while we sleep. If it were in another room, I would love to set it on timed start and have warm, clean, dry clothes waiting in the morning. The floor is tile and has a drain in the center - I wanted that in case of overflows. A great idea but not as great as I had hoped. As with all spinning appliances, there is vibration. The slight slopes in the tile floor to encourage water to drain properly make for a difficult levelling job and SOME resulting vibration on our third floor laundry. That would not have been an issue with a flat floor. I still am glad I have the drain - just in case - but I know now how to improve that.

We are empty nesters and very pleased. I would not care for the unit as much if we still had kids, and the resulting lots of loads. We load it up pretty full and it chugs right along. I have loaded it very full and it can get a few twists but a reasonable sized load does very well. If you take the clothes out right after the unit shuts off, they might feel a bit damp at first. By the time they are placed on hangars or folded, that goes away. I think that actually reduces wrinkling.

Exceptional clothes washer/dryer combo Posted: 10/21/07
"1. Comments concerning the product.1.1. Washing quality.Nothing short of sublime. For example, thepre-wash automatically dispenses enough waterto get the clothes sopping wet AND NO MORE!!!Therefore: the clothes get worked with a richdilution of detergent, entirely the same as ifyou were hand-washing in a bucket and you startedby hand-rubbing-scrubbing those deep-set-soiledareas. Only: the machine is doing this with everyarea of the clothes, and extremely gently.Result: For the first time, I had the pleasure ofa clothes load that is truly sparkling clean.1.2. Drying quality. The main complaint of most users is that thismodel dries the clothes too slowly. Actually,if I set the machine to "More Dry" followingmaximum speed damp extraction, it takesapproximately 3 hours to achieve the followingresults. The clothes are perfectly dry, fluffyand ready to be put away. I in the meantimehave had the intervening time to go to work, orelse go to sleep, or else tend to the garden, orelse do the weekly grocery jaunt, or somethingequally as useful. Especially considering the20 lb. capacity of the machine (i. e., one singlewashload "goes a long way") and most especiallyconsidering that I don't have to go through thetime and agony of transferring the clothes to aseparate drying machine, I personally suffer noloss whatsoever for the drying time as stated.Where I gain, is that the engineering of thedryer function, allows installation at anystandard (120 V a-c, 15 amp) outlet, with noneed for ventilation of the lint exhaust. Thelint primarily condenses on a cold coil (cooledby simple cold water flow) which also condensesthe effluvient moisture from the clothes, and themoist lint then gets flushed down "the drain" bythe discharge pump. It can't get much easier!!!1.3. (Comparative) overall operation. My previous experience had been with aruggedized, commercial version of the MaytagNeptune front loader in a hotel, where I stayedfor a short while "between homes". The WM3677HWis wildly better at finding a balance of the loadof clothes, which may just be that my WM3677HW is"the latest and the greatest" (i. e., the latestNeptunes may be similarly improved). With thebarest minimum of vibration if any, at the highestspin speed selection, the machine can spin theliving daylights out of the clothes and leavethem all but ready to put away without drying inthe true sense. As a similar indication of the outstandingengineering of the machine, if I cheat and usesome left-over Proctor and Gamble ERA detergent(super-foam) instead of Proctor and Gamble TIDE HE(regulated-foam), and if I get that mountain ofsuds as a result, the WM3677HW is clever enoughto sense the presence of the suds residue and itwill sit at "34 minutes estimated time remaining"filling with water and repeat-discharging untilthe suds are gone!!![...]"

2 years...I still like it Posted: 9/21/07
"We've had ours for 2 years now. Chose it due to a number of renovation considerations.
Overall, I'm still pleased with the machine in spite of it's quirks. But the quirks are not a problem. Yes. If you overload it, stuff will twist and wrinkle, because most owners of front loaders think the machines have laundry-mat capacity and feel it's OK cram it all in...resist that urge and you're set. It holds a fine amount of clothing without crammimg. Eyeball slightly more than half the basket full and you're good to go.
Yes. It will dry in some heavy wrinkles if drying a CRAMMED load and left too long. So, it's very important not to overload the thing if you don't want wrinkles! No. You do not need the special HE detergent. I use regular Tide, or whatever is on sale. I like the one bit of maintenance required: occasionally draining the pump and cleaning the washing filter. Easy. I can now imagine what builds up in conventional washers when you can't clean it yourself...Lint removal is different: you'll rub/roll it off of the door gasket and pluck it from the small drain holes in the gasket assembly. I use a washcloth to swipe lint: it rolls up into a small, usually moist wad that is easily removable from the cloth and tossed away. Then I toss the cloth into the washer. No big deal. I'd recommend buying the pedestal. It brings the machine to a good working height and the drawer is nice to have.
This thing spins like a jet engine on it's highest setting. Of course you have excellent flexibility for multiple washing options.
Once you get the hang of the machine, you'll like it.

Very good so far Posted: 8/1/07
"Works perfectly, installs easily. Never buy a multi-stage unit again where I have to move clothes from washer to dryer. 110 volt works great in the apartment and it vents down the drain."

does exactly what we had read about Posted: 7/8/07
"it does a real nice cleaning job on the clothes, better than the traditional washer. Its extremely quiet, unless its out of balance.
Drying time sucks..............only bad thing about this machine. You have to buy the (HE) laundry non-sudsy soap, its concentrated. Ours is portable right now. We also purchased the storage bin that it sets on. It keeps all the soap and stuff in there. I had to install wheels instead of the screw pads it came with.

Buyer Beware!!! Posted: 6/11/07
"We thought this machine sounded like a dream. Well it was too good to be true. After spending [$] on this unit, and using exactly as the manual instructed us to we are still battling mounds of twisted and taggled laundry. LG will not do anything. They say as long and it is washed and dried it is working. All they can say is to decrease the amount of laundry we put into the unit. I think a washer and dryer should hold more than 3 pairs of jeans."
