Overall Pretty Good
Posted:2/9/10
Pros: washes and dries all in one!, uses steam to dry so clothes do not shrink as much
Cons: drying takes a while, must add fabric softner manually, must learn to clean the vent w/o leaking water
"I have had this summit washer/dryer for almost two years and overall I think it was a good purchase. The machine is small and since I live alone (and most of my cloths are dry clean) it works well in my small house. I have had the repairman out multiple times to service the machine, all to solve issue #1. The repairman was great, but finding a vendor to service the unit, under the warranty, took a while.
Issue #1: The main issue for me is cleaning out the "vent" at the bottom front of the machine. My hair sheds (a lot!) so the vent can get clogged pretty eaisly (and quickly -- about every quarter I need to clean out the vent). When the vent gets clogged the machine no longer dries -- and in fact instead of the drying cycle getting rid of the water the cloths actually get wetter (if you can imagine). Once I learned how to clean the vent (and close it tightly enough so water does not leak all over the hardwood floors) I have not had to call for service/repair (which is good b/c the warranty has been up for awhile). This for me was a major issue until I learned how to fix it myself. In fact I was ready to scrap the machine altogether and get a stackable unit at one point.
Issue #2: The only other (minor) item is that you have to manually add the frabric softner right before the spin cycle. The machine does not "tell you" when to add it, you just have to be aware that it is the last rinse and come running to add the softner. Having used regluar washers and dryers for most of life, I was more used to adding the detergent and softner all at the beggining and walking away. Needless to say I bought a bottle of frabric softner two years ago, and I still have half the bottle left!
As with the other reviews, you do need to wash/dry smaller loads at a time AND the drying does take forever and two days. I find I can throw in a load before bed every night (or every other night). One thing I must say about the dryer is b/c it uses steam I find my clothes (and jeans) have not been shrinking as quickly and my clothes are lasting a little longer.
I would recommend getting a tray to catch any water that may leak. You usually buy them for front loader washers that are not installed on the basement level. I only had leakage of water when I was beginning to learn how to clean the vent, but boy it was pain and the hardwood will never be the same."

Pros: small efficient
Cons: no complaints
"- i bought this for my rental. it fit just right in the space we set aside for it. my tenants can use the service porch now with out the fear of appliance overload.
- my son said it was easy to install - the instruction were clear.
- and so far the tenants seem to be satisfied with this unit.

Pros: none
Cons: quality, customer service from manufacturer
"I strongly advise you not to buy this machine. The first one I bought broke after six weeks, and the replacement from the manufacturer arrived already broken. So far Summit has been unable to provide a replacement part or a repairperson for the broken replacement. I am hopeful that I will have a working maching somemtime before the holidays, but we'll see......"

Only if you have to

"The only up side to this machine is it's compact size. If you don't have much room, this is what you need. It takes a lot of getting used to if you usually use an ordinary washer and dryer. It only washes a few pieces at a time and takes 2 - 3 times as long to finish. If you don't take the clothes out during the cycle and shake them out a few times, they will be wrinkled. There is no buzzer to tell you when the machine is finished and so even if you shake the garments out, if you aren't watching closely, they will be wrinkled because you won't realize when it is finished."
