Early Life Failure, No Repair Parts
Posted:5/2/12
Pros: it has no pro's.
Cons: early life failure, useless as a heater, no repair parts, worse than useless customer support
" I purchased an RT135HP over the Internet in July 2010. It is installed as the heat/cool for a 6'x12'x8' very well insulated outdoor building used as a wine wine cellar.
It worked fine through the first summer. In the winter of 2010/2011 I had to put an electric space heater in the "box" because the RT135HP could not produce enough heat-- the coils iced-up after just a few hours.
The summer of 2011 the AC unit failed. It starts and cools, but after a few minutes stops with error code E2. I called Soleusair and tech support was less that useless. They said call a local dealer (nearest one is 500 miles away) to serivce it... fat chance.
After a few re-starts it locked itself into the cooling mode with a unchangable temperature of 65 degrees (OK for a wine cellar).
After the winter of 2012 I tried turning it on again (5/2/2012) and the old E2 problem is back. Called Soleusair and asked how to buy parts since there is no service center anywhere near us. Their answer-- you can't. We do not sell parts for it anymore. If one is under warranty we'll replace the whole unit. If it is out of warranty you'll just have to buy a new one.
I'm certainly not likely to buy anything else from them. And the best advice-- stay away from their products. "

" Doesn't blow as hard as I would like. But it works very well and was easy to install. I would have gotten a more powerful unit but it was the biggest one with a remote control, which I needed. "

Works average, some let downs.

Pros: affordable included top and bottom units
Cons: no fan auto mode, poorly designed indoor unit
" First off, it cools. It's cooling performance is in line with other models. The included directions are a tragic mess, if you don't have above average skill then hire someone. This unit does not have a fan "auto" mode, meaning while it's on the fan constantly runs even when the set temperature is reached. Speaking of set temperature, the internal thermostat probe was mounted in the wrong place in the output vent instead of return vent. Easily fixed by cutting the plastic band and reattaching it over return grill. Also I've found that setting below 73 results in the unit freezing.
The inside unit does not fit well. It won't snug up to the ceiling and results in return air being drawn around top instead of completely through the included mesh filters, which by the way can't be cleaned without removing the two screws that mount the indoor unit. Once unscrewed a balancing act has to be performed in order to unplug the control unit wiring.
The upper unit and supply air are routed through a fabric plenum (the intructions calls this the "underpants"), which does create some slight additional noise when running. Also unlike other units this one does not include a built in electrical junction box meaning one will likely need to be added prior to installation. Very simple to do, I used a handy box and cover with two wire clamps. Also not included is a full plenum between the upper and lower units leaving a void that would allow the return air to be drawn from the inside of the ceiling. I remedied this with HVAC foil tape to the aluminum rafters.
All said what makes this affordable is the included bottom unit and comes with a roof seal already mounted, no need to purchase a mounting kit. I can't speak for the heating mode, it's been installed for two months and the a/c is adequate. "

Pros: too early to tell
Cons: not at all what i bargained for.
" Suppose I may not be the best reviewer
of this product, as I had trouble with mine
nearly right out of the box. So forgive me.
I had shopped hard for a combo heat and
cool unit for my Class C RV, and purchased
this unit with the idea it was a heat pump.
It ran for about three days and simply quit.
We had a good power supply, nothing appeared
amiss, but it would not even operate the readout
on the ceiling unit. So, after five weeks of working
with Daniel in Los Angelos, who was great, finally
was about to get it running by changing two of the
circuit boads. One was in the ceiling unit and one
up in the main unit.
It this process, I became aware of the heat strip.
I think it's unacceptable to call a unit a heat pump,
when it is merely a air conditioner with a type of
heat strip which will draw a very high resistance.
And so, I'm going to make the best of it for now,
and realize life nowadays is full of learning curves,
which seem to wind up putting your wallet in a hurt.
