Will never purchase another Maytag washer
Posted:12/30/12
Pros: attractive looking washer
Cons: see below
" Back in the day Maytag washing machines were spectacular. My parents would only shop Maytag! The past 3 washers I have purchased are Maytag and the next ones will NEVER be Maytag as all 3 have been problematic. Currently, what I dislike about the Bravos (energystar/HE/Econserve) is that:
A. The clothes never get as clean as prior.
B. When the fabric softener automatically dispenses during an all dark clothes wash, it streaks the clothes whereby I have to run them through another full cycle of water only to get rid of the fabric softner streaking, which of course somewhat defeats the purpose of placing fabric softener in the dispenser in the first place.
C. Despite my best efforts, the loads generally become unbalanced whereby I can never run the washing machine unattended.
D. There is no way I can control the water level manually. If I stop the machine and add fabric softener that is diluted in substantial amounts of water the machine immediately drains.

Pros: pretty - big deal
Cons: unbalanced loads are making me unbalanced., can't do a full load because of the unbalancing.
" With 2/3 of a load, it becomes unbalanced - almost every load. After 6 months, I'm very tired of having the clothes tangled and stretched out of shape, having to pull them apart to rebalance the load even though I loaded it well balanced. I will lower the current Medium spin setting to Low and see if this helps but why have a machine that won't spin at Medium? I also really miss the agitator. If we don't see a huge improvement after changing the setting to Low, we're donating the stupid thing to a thrift shop and buying anything but a Maytag. "

Pros: looks good. glass lid is kinda cool. very quiet.
Cons: too many to list here see review above.
" After deciding to replace a 20 year old Maytag w&d set with a new Maytag Bravos set, the effect of Whirlpool's aquisition of Maytag became evident quickly. Here is our "Laundry List" of problems with the washer: 1) (MOST IMPORTANT), The electronic circuit board went bad after just 3 weeks. It flashed an F54 code and the cycle would just stop. Upon calling service, I was informed that problems with the Bravos circuit were quite common, 2) loads in it become unbalanced very easily. Even on a textured tile surface, I needed to push the unit back about 1"-2" after just a few loads. When the unit goes unbalanced it really shakes. It senses the unbalanced load then shuts the cycle down and tries to fix it by refilling the drum with water and slowly agitaging the clothes into more balanced positions. This seems to work, but in three short weeks, the shaking of the washer wore off the paint on my dryer (to it's left) and my refrigerator (to it's right). The paint was worn to the bare metal about 1/2" high and about 2-3 inches long. And this was after only 3 weeks. I noticed this when I pulled the units out so I could return them to the store 3) It stinks. It literaly stinks. And Maytag knows it is GOING to stink. That is why they have a sensor (with a light on the panel) to tell you to use a cleaning agent (Affresh) to clean the unit. There is even a special cycle for cleaning the unit with the Affresh logo on the control panel. In 30 years of doing laundry, I have never had a washer just start to stink on its own, nor have I owned a unit that had a need to be flushed out regularly to avoid stinking, 4) you have to put the detergent directly into a small drain (very similar to where chlorine bleach used to go on the old-style units). This means if you have a shelf or cabinet above the washer to hold the liquid detergent (with a spout), you can't just squirt the detergent directly onto the clothes. You need to use the measuring cup and pour it into the little drain (no big deal, but it takes more time). "
