AJ is great, Maytag is awful
Pros: clean simple looks
Cons: reliability value high cost to maintain.
"No problems with AJ just the quality of Maytag. Had it for 2 years before it started to break down. The initial problem was we lost the function of a couple of buttons on the control panel. The cost to replace the control panel was about $400.00 with about $250 for the part and the rest for labor. The buttons weren't all too important (self cleaning, clock, warm) so we kept using the oven instead of paying to have the part replaced.
Our repair guy is cool and tells me the problem with the control panel is that Maytag didn't insulate the computer boards so when you kick up the heat in the oven by using the broil or self cleaning feature, you melt some of the contacts or components. He says we can check appliance repair chat rooms for more information. Sure enough, I found this problem occurs a lot for Maytag. Man they must be making a killing off these parts.
Now the complete control panel has stopped working and I have to replace the control panel. The cost has gone up to 475.00 since my repair guy is concerned that he has to warranty a bunch of these boards. I agreed to have my control panel replaced, but told my repair guy if it goes out again, be prepared to install a non-Maytag oven. He gave me all the dimensions of our oven cavity so I can pre-shop for a new oven."
