The latest, top-of-the-line GE Profile cooktops offer smooth top designs with electronic touch controls and two new sensor convenience features--Pan Presence Sensor and Pan Size Sensor. This new technology features innovative sensors, located beneath the surface of the glass cooktop, that detect the frequency changes brought about by the placement and size of a metal pan. This is the same technology used to detect cars at a stoplight. The new Pan Presence Sensor detects whether there is a pan on the burner. If the burner is turned on and there is no pan on the burner, within 60 seconds, the burner will automatically shut off. The Pan Size Sensor automatically sets the appropriate size for the flexible dual element. This sensor lights either a 6" circle of heat or a 9" circle, depending on the size of the pan. Both features can be deactivated at the touch of a button. The electronic touch controls give consistent, fast and accurate heating of the burners in milliseconds, rather than seconds, for better cooking performance. These controls are positioned conveniently at the front center of the 36" cooktop. The electronic touch controls also help you keep your meals on track with a digital kitchen timer. In addition, there's a control lock-out setting to prevent unwanted cooktop operation. These GE electric smooth cooktops offer flexible and versatile cooking options. The 36" models include a fifth burner that can double as a warming element with three settings. The frameless surface allows the cooktop to be installed flush with the countertop creating a stunning, sleek look. This frameless surface and smooth touch controls offer no crevices to catch drips or spills so cleanup is easy.

Cons: simply unreliable / terrible customer service
"I bought this unit in April of 2007 and it has been nothing but trouble. It intermittingly shuts down and shows ERROR Codes. One burner is now completely useless as well. Be aware that only GE qualified service tech companies are able to service this unit. The only thing worse than the unit itself is GE’s customer service. Do yourself a favor and look at another product."
