Smeg 36" Freestanding Dual Fuel Range A1U6

Since 1988, Smeg has been present in Europe through its nine branches. Each one of them is strongly tied to the parent company which day by day feeds the branches with the ideas, history, and culture which make up their brand. Each branch, whilst autonomous, works in perfect harmony with the philosophy which has made Smeg's style unique. For more than 50 years, Smeg has been present in the international market with its products. Understated lines, perfect in their simplicity - this is what makes Smeg products refined and elegant, beyond the passing fads of fashion. It is an unmistakable style, shaped by the leading architects and industrial designers in the world who have undertaken original and exclusive projects. The engineering behind both their materials and their processes allow for the highest quality steel, which is rigorously selected, to be transformed into products which combine the highest levels of technology and design. Production, incorporating laser cutting facilities for steel, workshop at the avant-garde of mechanics, exhaustive fatigue testing of materials, and laboratories engaged constantly in research, all testify to Smeg's commitment to offer aspirational products destined to be durable and to last in time.

Pros: compact efficient design. beautiful., quirky awesome digital/analog clock/timer, quirky awesome controls, will cause lengthly questions about italian design
Cons: slightly shorter and shallower than standard ovens, smallish oven interior won't fit really big pizza, suspect the back burners don't heat 100% evenly, fans on oven are always on louder with convection
" I've only been living with this range for a week. That said, I'm quite pleased with it. Certainly is a looker, and so far works just as expected.
One thing rarely noted in these reviews is the cryptic symbology used on the controls and the counter-clockwise (and counter-intuitive) controls. Doesn't take long to get to understand it, but you have to THINK before you start. I don't see that as a negative.
One aspect of the odd controls that I'm loving is the digital/analog clock on the front-left. It has a lovely nixie-tube like glow to it, and while setting the alarm is at first a little weird, I love how the timer hijacks the display and shows you exactly how much time is left. I LOVE THE CLOCK!
Also not mentioned are the multitude of drip-trays included and the "washable removable liners" inside the stove. Essentially the heating elements are behind removable walls, making a full cleaning a snap. "

Awesome

Pros: beautiful heavy duty well made
Cons: none
" Received my stove in less than 2 weeks, when it arrived it was packaged very well. Delivery was excellent. I had a total electric stove before, we had to run a gas line for propane. Process went very smoothly to change over. This unit is Very well made, very sturdy and beautiful. Read all instructions before turning it on. The instructions are very clear, they even tell you how to cook and what temp to use, with examples of food. I really love the convection oven, you can cook traditionally or convection. So roomy for at least 3 casseroles at a time. It even defrosts. Several racks included, even Rotisery (sp) Clean up is awesome, I was used to scrubbing my old stove, this one wipes clean very quickly, even rice that spills over or grease splatters. Very sturdy grates. Bottom drawer is very roomy, all my pans fit perfectly. I researched for over 2 years before I purchased this stove. It is indeed an awesome stove, and an awesome price. "

Disappointed
Posted:11/29/12
Pros: look and feel
Cons: support & service after the sale
" This a beautiful piece of machinery. I like the design, the layout of the burners, the look and feel, and the price point for what you are getting. The oven is smaller than I anticipated but not a show stopper. The reason for my diappointment is related to the reliability and the service. I encountered a problem with the range within 8 months of receiving it, called SMEG customer support (this is actually a third party in Arizona who is only available during business hours, no weekend support). They were very polite and took the information and advised they would dispatch a technician. After a few days of not hearing anything I called back and was advised that they had sent the request to Mr. Appliance and I should call Mr. Appliance to see when they would be out. Called Mr. Appliance, they didn't have the info from SMEG, called SMEG back and got them to resend the details. A week and a half after my initial call, Mr. Appliance came out. Did some preliminary troubleshooting with some folks on the phone because they had never seen this brand before. Parts were ordered and I was told they would be back out to install the new parts. Another two weeks went by and they came back to install the parts and it didn't fix the problem. The tech from Mr. Appliance got back on the phone with SMEG support in Arizona and they decided to replace some other parts. A few days after the tech from Mr. Appliance left I got a call to see if I could do some test secenarios to further diagnose the issue in question. I recorded some videos of the scenarios and sent those off. I understand they were reviewed by the team in Arizona and also folks at SMEG in Italy. They sent new parts and Mr. Appliance came out a third time, spent more than 3 hours repalcing parts, on the phone with support and finally gave up and advised SMEG that they replace the whole unit. Up until this point I have been dealing with the third party service company in Arizona. Out of frustration I also called SMEG USA in New York to see if they could do anything to move this along and was told that if I sent an email to them they would advise of the status of the replacement. I have sent multiple emails with zero replies. I did recieve a voice mail from the support team in Arizona advising that the replacement range had to come from Italy and should be in country in 3 weeks. The way it is looking is I will be lucky to have a working range by Christmas. I took a risk buying a brand that didn't have much of a track record in the US. I love the stlyle and price point for a higher end appliance but I feel SMEG let me down in the service department. It really seems like this is far from a priority to them and once the appliance is sold they don't have a vested interest in your satisfaction. For a company that is trying to gain market share in the higher end appliance market in the US I am surprised and disappoined in the complete experience. "

Pros: works great
Cons: none
" This stove is not only one of the best looking it works great and it's the best deal on the net. Believe me I looked a long time. Arrived in perfect shape. It did come a week late because the first one was damaged and trucking company refused it. Second one is perfect. "
